1. What is the Student Union Building (S.U.B.)?

A Student Union Building is a building at a University campus, set aside for recreational, social, and student government activities of the students. At UNM, the Student Union operates as a Division of Student Affairs. Our mission is to maintain the highest possible standards in student support, services, and programming in order to promote a strong sense of community where UNM students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests can congregate and socialize in an environment that promotes an appreciation for diversity.

2. How do I reserve a meeting room in the SUB?

Student Organizations, UNM Departments, and Non-UNM affiliated groups can reserved the meeting rooms, ballrooms, or the theater in the SUB. To get more information on our rooms and services, please visit our Event Planning Page. To get more information about pricing and availability, or to setup your event, contact our Event Planning Team @ 277-5498, subevent@unm.edu or in the SUB, Suite 3020.

3. How can I get a table in the SUB, to pass out information?

Informational tables are available to Student Organizations, UNM departments and Non-UNM affiliated groups. Student Organizations with a current charter on file may used tables free of charge on the Mall Level. Please reserve you table at least 1 week in advance to ensure availability by contacting our Event Planning Team @ 277-5498, subevent@unm.edu or in the SUB, Suite 3020.

4. Can I have an event catered by the SUB if it's not at UNM?

Yes! Student Union Catering offers its services through out the Albuquerque Area. We can cater your event at your business or personal residence. Please note that travel charges may apply. Contact our Catering Department @ 277-0781 today for more information.

5. How can I hang a banner in the SUB?

Hanging a banner at the SUB is a great way for Student Organization or UNM departments to get the message out. Before a banner may be put up, it must be approved by the Student Union Administration. To get started, fill out the Ad Request Form. We will get back with the approval status of your request. From there, drop off your banner at the SUB Admin Office (Suite 3020) and we will make sure your banner is put up as requested. Space is limited, please make all banner requested at least 1-2 weeks before you would like the banner put up. The earlier your request is made, the better chance space will be available. Our banner policy is available on the Ad Request Page. Please contact the Marketing/ Communications department @ 277-7885 with any questions.

6. Where are the bathrooms?

The bathrooms on each level are located at the center of the building. This Map should help.

7. Is Alcohol allowed in the SUB for events?

Per UNM's Alcohol Policy, alcohol is not allowed at events in the SUB. Student Union Catering can offer bar and alcohol services for events at the UNM Championship Golf Course Pavilion or other off campus venues.

9. Is the SUB hiring?

The Student Union employs approximately 70 students at any point in time and we are always accepting applications. You can print an application now by going to our Employment page, or stop by the welcome desk next time your in the SUB to pick one up. Jobs at the SUB offer advancement opportunities, flexible schedules and you'll work with a great team.

10. What is the SUB doing to be green?

The Student Union has implemented a number of environmentally friendly (or green) initiatives. The SUB has air hand dryers in the restrooms instead of paper towels to reduce paper waste, there are several recycling bins located throughout the building, and most of the lights in the SUB are energy effecient CFLs. Through the Red AND Green Initiative, the SUB informs students of ways to develope their own green habits at UNM. For more information visit our Red AND Green web page.
